BARC Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Bangalore Amateur Radio Club - VU2ARC, the oldest Amateur Radio club in India was founded in the year 1959 by a handful of radio enthusiasts including Sulu, VU2GV; Sham Rao, VU2BZ; Saibal Ghose, VU2SO, Sharma and Sampath, VU2YZ, all names starting with a "S". The initial callsign of the club was VU2TT, which subsequently became VU2ARC. Some of the initial members of BARC include, Mani-VU2SE, Gundu Rao-VU2AO, Ramachandra-VU2BB. OM Sulu brought out the first newsletter SIRAN - South India Radio Amateur's Newsletter. Thus was formed Bangalore Amateur Radio Club.
This year, BARC-VU2ARC is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year. BARC has a deep heritage with old times including VU2TS, VU2GX, VU2IR, VU2RO, VU2VK, VU2WP, and many more who the present generation hams may not even know.
To mark the Golden Jubilee Year - 2009, BARC in coordination with the HamfestIndia 2009 committee has conducted several events, to conclude with the final celebrations on 7 & 8 November 2009. The present President of BARC OM Sampath Kumaran - VU2YZ who is one of the founders of the club is also the General Convener of HFI-2009.
The Golden Jubilee Celebrations during HFI-2009 will be inaugurated on Sunday, 8 November 2009. There will be a prize distribution ceremony during this function to all the winners in the events conducted through the year 2009. Participation Certificates will be given away to all the active participants.
