Amateur Radio Light House & Light Ship Week

A Special Callsign AT8LHC was allocated for Kadalur Point Lighthouse, Calicut - Kerala from 7th to 16th August 2009 on occasion of International Lighthouse and Lightship Week by the Government of India - Ministry of Communication and Information Technology - Deparment of Telecom, WPC Wing Amateur Cell.

Directorate of Light houses and Light Ships, Cochin conveyed their Director General of Lighthouse and Lightship, Noida approval for Amateur Radio operation at Kadalur Point Lighthouse (WLOL IND 013) at 11 Degree 28 Minutes North and 75 Degree 38 Minutes East (Grid Location MK71tl). All this, with the sole efforts of our Secretary, Ajoy-VU2JHM.

This activity is part of the Bangalore Amateur Radio Club's Golden Jubliee Celebrations and Hamfest India 2009 activity.

Arasu, VU2UR and Laxman, VU2LX, put in a lot of efforts on CW in addition to Dr. Abraham Jacob VU2OJ and Ajoy VU2JHM to make more than 650 QSOs and work more than 50 countries.

Some of them are Uzbekistan, Diego garcia, Kazakhstan, European Russia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Leituva, Belarus, Slovak Rep, Macedonia, Serbia, Italy, Cyprus, Faroe Is, Asiatic Russia, Sri Lanka, Russian Antarctic Expedition Station at Myrnyy Base, Slovenia, West Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Lesotho, Hong kong, Austria, Labrador-Canada, South Africa, Re-Union Is, Switzerland, South Korea, Czech Rep, France, Israel, Finland, Ogasawara Island, Belgium, Pakistan, Oman, Thailand, East Malaysia, Australia, Bulgaria, Romania, Taiwan, Guam, Norway, England, Estonia and many more

This Lighthouse is going to celebrate its Centenary 100th Year this month and hence was chosen the callsign (AT8LHC) 88-Light-House-Centenary or Light-House-Calicut!!

The local hams of Calicut including Sageesh VU3PSZ, Ashraf VU3MTY, Sunil VU2ATB, Sanil Deep VU3SIO who volunteered out of the way and extended their hospitality and extraordinary help to arrange all logistics - which we from BARC whole heartedly appreciate and thank. Amongst the visitors were OM Vishwanath SWL VU0020, VU3HPN Ranjan, VU2LTV Dr.Rajesh, VU2CTN Christopher, VU2VJT Thomas, VU2KIV Dr. Vidjit Vijayasanker and their friends who spent a lot of time with the team encouraging this activity.
