Report on 18th ARDF held on 12th November 2017
The 18th Annual ARDF or more popularly known as Fox-Hunt was held on 12th November 2017 in Bangalore.
Build up to the event started during announcement at the monthly meeting of BARC in the month of September 2017. Though the event was scheduled to be held on 1st November, owing to the date clashing with the holiday weekend of Deepavali festivals, the event was rescheduled to the present date.Regular announcements were made on the VHF nets by the various net controllers thereby spreading the word around. Website of BARC and Facebook pages also covered the event details.
To have a better coordination for the event , a subcommittee was formed under the Chairmanship of OM Venkatesh. OM Anil VU3UDK took upon the responsibility of making all the publicity material and certificates etc ready. It was highly appreciated by the participants that for the first time names of partcipants were printed on the certificates before being handed over to them.
To avoid last moment rush for registrations at the flag off venue and the inconvenience associated with it, all participants were asked to make online transfer of registration fees and sent screenshot of the same along with filled up copy of registration and waiver forms. Though the initial response was very poor, it later picked up pace and the registrations were closed on 10th November. All registrants were informed to assemble on the day of event at the Office of DCP South, Jayanagar for formal registration , briefing and flag off.
Registrations were on from 8am with breakfast sponsored by M/s Radiokart being served to all the participants and briefing was done at 8.45 AM by the Secretary. Though the scheduled time for flag off was 9AM, it was delayed by one hour due to the Chief Guest being delayed . Secretary introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Sharanappa- IPS, DCP South Bangalore to the participants and he briefly addressed them. Later the participants were flagged off at 10AM by the Chief Guest.
The first howl, which was supposed to be at 9AM was postponed due to delay in flag off and the first howl was sent out at 10:30 AM which was heard loud and clear all over the city. After one hour of transmission on highpower thereby enabling the hunting teams to head in the right direction, the transmission was scaled down to low power of 5 watts for the next 45 minutes and subsequently to 500mW and 50mW balance of the hunt duration. After 1 hour, the foxes announced the first clue indicating the general direction i.e Kanakapura Road, after additional 30 mins, the second clue was given of Nittegere.
The first hunting team reached the foxhole at 11.32 PM followed by second and third teams over the next 15 minutes. Since it was decided to wind up the event within scheduled time of two hours, the foxhole location was disclosed to all participants who would like to visit the foxhole and the hunt was declared closed at 12.30PM and everybody proceeded to the prize distribution venue for fellowship and lunch. The foxhole was located at a distance of about 30km from city center in the rocky outcrop of Gund Anjaneya Temple hillock near Nettigere, off Kanakapura Road. Prize distribution and fellowship was held at the farm belonging to OM Vijayendra , a well wisher of BARC, which he had magnanimously agreed to be used for the event.
Over lot of bonhomie, backslapping and sharing of experience by the participating teams a thoroughly enjoyable fellowship followed. Prize distribution was held to award the winners their well deserved prizes which were handed over by the Chief Sponsor OM Ramaprabhu VU2DEV, OM Suresh Kumar and our President OM Vijayda.
